From Couch to Coach: A Runner’s Journey
I didn’t grow up as a runner. I started in Montreal in 2012 with a Couch to 10K program, wondering whether I could even complete the distance. Within three months, I had run my first 10K races—and discovered a passion that would eventually take me to marathons, 100-mile races and the 246-kilometre Spartathlon.
Along the way, I qualified for the Boston Marathon with a 3:08 finish and became the only Canadian man to complete the Spartathlon twice. In 2024, I ran 213.2 kilometres in 24 hours to become Canadian champion.
That progression—from complete beginner to international ultrarunner—shapes how I coach today. I understand that ambitious goals are reached gradually, through consistent training that fits the athlete’s experience, schedule and real life.
My Running Coaching Philosophy Built on Philotimo
During a transformative three-month stay in Greece, Etienne discovered Philotimo, a Greek concept that embodies integrity, presence, and helping others without expectation. Inspired, he realized coaching would allow him to combine his passion for running with a purpose-driven philosophy: guiding athletes to reach their potential while maintaining balance, flexibility, and mental strength. This philosophy is at the heart of every training plan he creates.

I work with busy runners preparing for their first 10K, a half-marathon or marathon, as well as experienced trail runners and ultramarathoners pursuing ambitious endurance goals.
Every training plan is adapted to the runner’s experience, schedule, progression and personal goals—because effective coaching must work within real life.
